The live screen is currently running (Saturday 26th September). Watch at:

 https://templot.com/companion/live_screen.php

If you have any questions or help requests please post them here in this topic, and I will try to answer them. Or just to say that you are watching, so that I know I'm not talking to myself. Thanks. :)

Please note that I have set the microphone volume to maximum here, but I'm aware some viewers find the sound a bit quiet. Please increase the volume on your speakers or adjust your computer volume settings if necessary. I'm planning to get a new microphone, although I suspect the problem is in the streaming service.

cheers,

Martin.

Hi Martin,

Just having a watch of the live screen. The video is fine. Your voice is very low through the speakers - if I turn the voulme knob well up then you are partially drowned out. It sounds like you are using a mobile on top of a mountain on a windy day. Where is your microphone located ?

Time to put my hot and spicy pizza in the oven. Will try and check back later.

Rob

You’re not alone Martin....:thumb:
Great to put a face to a name and hear a voice of someone who’s helped me out for my years. Enjoyed the last hour seeing the junction at Beckenham slowly take shape. Picked up lots of bits of info along the way and was very happy to see you use shift and join.......I knew it would catch on.....:D

Coming up to my bedtime now, so many thanks for taking the time to show us just how good Templot is.

Hi Martin,

The sound is better now. Doesn't seem to be as much background noise being picked up and I don't have to ramp the volume knob up as much to hear you.

Rob

Thanks for the feedback and comments. I think it went quite well. :)

I'm sorry about the poor audio quality. I now have a new better-quality microphone, but it hasn't made as much difference as I hoped. Most of the problem seems to be my mumbly voice, and I don't know what I can do about that. There could also be audio failings in the MP4 encoder I'm using, but I can't see anywhere to change the audio settings other than the bitrate, which I've tried without any obvious improvement.

Which leaves only the questions of whether to do any more such sessions, and if so how often. And to what extent they could replace written answers on here, including time spent making screenshots and videos, etc.

I am keeping a recording of each session, so in theory they could be posted after the event to make them permanently available. In practice it is not so simple. I'm recording them in 15-minute clips to keep file sizes within reason (each one is around 100MB). Last night's session was over 4 hours, so I now have 17 such clips. To edit and combine them, removing interruptions and breaks (and also my various mistakes and mis-clicks :)) would be a day's work. And take ages to upload and use up large chunks of server memory. Perhaps they could go on YouTube. It might be possible to compile a shorter "best bits" version.

Thanks again for watching,

Martin.

I have now uploaded a 16-minute clip from Saturday's session:

 https://flashbackconnect.com/Default.aspx?id=gfzzOIbS7eMGzZPTOLRm1A2

I have called it CLIP A. It stops dead in the middle of nowhere, so I shall make a follow-on clip B. But I haven't done it yet.

cheers,

Martin.
